Utilitarian over Kantian View
If I were presented with the situation where in order to save my friends I had to twist a child's arm, then I would definitely do it if it saved my friend's lives. This is the Utilitarian view, which is saying that it would be ok to harm a child to save your friends lives. The Kantian view would say that it is horrible and immoral to harm the child even if it would save my friend's lives. So I agree with the Utilitarian view 100%

I agree. At this point, my friend would be more important then the little kid, and I would definitely have to take the utilitarian's side of this.
ReplyDeleteIn this situation I would also go with the utilitarian view, but I would not push it to cause that much harm to the child. I would hope that there would be an easier way, but if there is not then I do not see being so wrong to twist a child's arm.
ReplyDeleteI would also have to agree with the utilitarian view on this one, well said, I wouldn't let me friends die without doing all I could to help them.
